Ellington Lady Whippets Grab Second Conference Title of the Season
The Ellington Lady Whippets won their second conference tournament in two weeks. Last week they won the Black River League Championship over a state ranked team, South Iron. This week they claimed the Big Springs Conference Tournament Championship over state ranked Eminence Redwings. Although the Lady Whippets are very young overall, they are growing up quickly by putting themselves in tournament championship games, battling state ranked competition, and finding ways to come out on top.
In this championship game the Lady Redwings had a huge post player in Junior, Tristan Weaver to match Ellington's lone Senior Gracie Price, who is a big force in the middle for the Lady Whippets. Both of these young ladies battled the whole game with Weaver having 23 points to lead all scorers and Price finishing with 8 points and several rebounds.
In the end, it was the guard play of the Lady Whippets that separated them from the Lady Redwings led by point-guard, Freshman, Kaylee King, and Sophomore, Tyler Conkright. King ended up with 22 points and Conkright added 18 points. With the victory, the Lady Whippets move to 15-3 on the season and have now won all three tournaments they have been in this year: the Lady Dawg Classic, Black River League, and Big Springs Conference Tournaments.
