East Carter Lady Redbirds Come Home With 4th Place
Lady Redbirds Fall in State Semi's
The East Carter Lady Redbirds faced the Sherwood Lady Marksmen in Class 2 State semifinals Friday afternoon.
The Lady Redbirds (22-7) were the home team on the scoreboard. The Lady Marksmen got on the board quick in the top of the 1st with 2 hits followed by a sac bunt, scoring one run. The Lady Birds get a 2 out hit by Rylee Odell but she is thrown out trying to steal second to end the inning, making the score 1-0 Lady Marksmen after 1.
Another bright spot for the Lady Birds was a 2 out hit in the 2nd by senior Kennedy Thies.
Both pitchers settled in until Lady Marksmen pitcher, Mackenzie Morgan, helped herself with a 1 out solo home run making it 2-0 Lady Marksmen. They would tack on 3 more runs on a bases-loaded error by the Lady Birds.
Senior, Makenna Moore, recorded the loss for Lady Birds, striking out 9 and scattering 6 hits.
Mackenzie Morgan ( Arizona State commit) got the win striking out 15 while allowing 3 hits.
Lady Redbird fall in 3rd place game
The East Carter Lady Redbirds took on the Marceline Lady Tigers in Class 2 3rd place game.
The Lady Birds (22-8) fall to the Lady Tigers 6-0 in their final game of the season. The Lady Redbirds were the home team on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers got on the board first when an outfield error allowed a runner to reach and was followed by an RBI base hit to make the score 1-0. The Lady Birds would struggle with their offense not collecting their first hit until a 2 out single by junior Anna Willis in the bottom of the 5th. The Lady Birds were making contact, but everything was right at the Lady Tigers defense. The Lady Birds committed 6 errors in the game allowing 6 runs to the Lady Tigers.
Sophomore Elizabeth Crowley hit a 2 out single in the bottom of the 6th, but would be left stranded.
Senior Makenna Moore took the loss for the Birds, striking out 3 and allowing 4 earned runs.
Cassandra Rodgers got the win for the Tigers, striking out 2.
It wasn't the outcome these ladies wanted, but they took us all on a great ride with
Back-to-Back Final Four appearances. With seven seniors on the team, they had high expectations for themselves. But these girls have nothing to hang their heads about. For those seven seniors, in their four years, they have had an impressive 106 wins; with a spring season still to come. Pitcher Makenna Moore is fast approaching the state record for career wins in the state of Missouri. The current record is 99 wins which were set last year.
