Donnettes win first district title since 2007
The #2 Doniphan Donnettes took on the #1 New Madrid Lady Eagle in the class 3 district 1 tournament championship. The game started off on a fast pace, with the Lady Eagles leading 19-13 after 1. The Donnettes would struggle scoring in the 2nd, trailing 36-20 at the half. The Donnettes came out sluggish at the start of the 3rd, going down 42-20 with 4:23 left. A timeout by coach Epps lite a fire under the girls as they would close the 3rd out on a 14-2 run, closing the Lady Eagle led to 44-34. The Donnettes weren't done yet, as they continue to apply pressure on the Lady Eagles and cut into the lead. The Donnettes would get a bucket with 8 secs left, by sophomore Bailey Carson for their first lead of the game. They would force a turnover in the final seconds to hold on for the win 54-53 to earn their first district title since 2007. The Donnettes were led by Carson with 18 points and junior Olivia Creutz with 14 points.
