Big Springs Conference Tournament Day 3
Day 3 of the Big Springs Conference Tournament brought the semi-final match-ups for both the boys and girls. The first game of the night featured the host, and top seed, (1) Eminence Lady Redwings against the (4) Van Buren Lady Bulldogs. This was a battle all the way through, but the Lady Redwings were able to punch their ticket to the championship game with a tight 57-54 victory of the Lady Bulldogs. Eminence was led in scoring by So. Tristan Weaver with 22 pts and Sr. Sydney Williams with 12 pts. Van Buren was led in scoring by Sr. Morgan Shockley with 19 pts, Sr. Jalynn Morgan with 17 pts, and Sr. Hannah Zimmer with 10 pts.
The second game of the night was also a girls game between the (2) Alton Lady Comets and (3) Ellington Lady Whippets. This game provided the first upset of the tournament in a 60-53 victory for the Ellington Lady Whippets that sealed them a place in the championship game against the Lady Redwings. Ellington was led in scoring by Jr. Gracie Price and Fr. Gretchen Hackworth with 17 pts. each. They were followed by Fr. Tyler Conkright with 12 pts. Alton was led in scoring by Sr. Kelsey Orr with 15 pts, Sr. Heidi Sisco with 14 pts, and Sr. Bailey Sisco with 13 pts.
In game three, the boys semi-finals began with the (1) Eminence Redwings taking on the (4) Alton Comets. This game was close throughout the first quarter, but the Redwings began to separate themselves as their two seniors started taking over the game. Eminence went on to win the game with a final score of 79-70. This win will allow the Redwings a chance to defend their conference tournament title, on their home floor, in the championship game on Saturday. Eminence was led in scoring by Sr. Trent McBride and Sr. Grant Dyer with 24 pts. each. The seniors were followed by Fr. Gavin Keeling with 12 pts. Alton was led in scoring by Jr. Drew Clary with 21 pts, Jr. Eli King with 15 pts, and Jr. Colby Kernodle with 13 pts.
The final game of the night featured the (2) Van Buren Bulldogs and (3) Ellington Whippets. Ellington attempted to follow their girls and pull off the second upset of the night. The Whippets were almost successful as they led after the first half with a score of 32-26. Van Buren answered by draining some deep threes in the second half. The score to end the third quarter was in favor of the Bulldogs: 52-47. The Bulldogs were able to hold this momentum and finish the game 73-61. This victory placed the Bulldogs in the championship game against the host, Eminence Redwings. Van Buren was led in scoring by Jr. Connor Jackson with 28 pts. Jackson was followed by Sr. Hayden Towner with 18 pts and Jr. Jacob Brown with 12 pts. Ellington was led in scoring So. Kyle Conkright with 22 pts and Sr. Will Copeland with 16 pts.
