Big Springs Conference Tournament Day 2
Day two of the Big Springs Conference Tournament brought mostly girls' games with the exception of one game being postponed from day one of the tournament. The first game featured the (1) Eminence Redwings vs. the (8) Couch Indians. As predicted, the defending state champions rolled into the semi-finals with a 75-26 victory over Couch. Eminence was led in scoring by Sr. Grant Dyer with 29 points, followed by Sr. Trent McBride with 23 pts.
Game two started the girls' side of the bracket with the (4) Van Buren Lady Bulldogs facing the (5) Couch Lady Indians. The Lady Bulldogs punched their ticket to the semi-final round with a convincing 71-28 victory. Van Buren was led in scoring by Sr. Jalynn Morgan with 16 pts. Jr. Rosalee Cipponeri contributed 13 pts for the Lady Bulldogs. She was followed by Fr. Scarlett Alcorn who threw in 10 pts. Couch was led in scoring by Jr. Grace Harris with 8 pts.
The third game of the night was the (2) Alton Lady Comets against the (7) Bunker Lady Eagles. The Lady Comets came flying out of the gate to end the first half with a score of 59-8. The second half of the game went similarly to end in a final score of 95-10. The Lady Comets were led in scoring by Fr. Hannah Wigger with 21 pts. Wigger was followed by Sr. Heidi Sisco with 15 and Sr. Kelsie Orr with 12. The Lady Eagles were led in scoring by Jr. Cheyenne Davis who contributed 7 of Bunker's 10 points.
In the final game of night two, the (3) Ellington Lady Whippets took on the (6) Summersville Lady Wildcats. In this game, the Lady Whippets, fresh off of their Black River League Tournament Championship, came out looking to advance to the next round. Ellington had a little bit of a slow start. After one quarter the score was 13-5. They quickly began to separate themselves from the Lady Wildcats and went on to win the game 50-19. Leading scorers for Ellington included Fr. Tyler Conkright with 18 pts, Jr. Gracie Price with 17 pts, and Fr. Gretchen Hackworth with 10 pts. Summersville was led in scoring by Fr. Marissa Fiske who had 7 pts.
The (1) Eminence Lady Redwings received a bye tonight. The Lady Redwings will play the (4) Van Buren Lady Bulldogs in the semi-finals on Thursday, January 24th at 4:00pm.
