Big Springs Conference Tournament: Championship Night
Championship Night in Eminence, MO featured four varsity basketball games. The first of the four displayed (4) Van Buren Lady Bulldogs and the (2) Alton Lady Comets for the girls' third-place trophy. The four seed, Van Buren Lady Bulldogs, pulled off the first upset off the night and took home the third-place trophy of the 2019 Big Springs Conference Tournament with a final score of 60-52.
The (3) Ellington Whippets took on the (4) Alton Comets in the boys' third-place game. The Whippets, coming off their second-place finish in the Black River League, grabbed third in the Big Springs Conference with their victory over Alton. The final score was 64-50.
In the girls' championship game the (1) Eminence Lady Redwings played the (3) Ellington Lady Whippets. This game had a very tight second half that could have gone either way. The Lady Whippets were able to pull off the second upset of Championship Night, and gain their second conference tournament championship within two weeks. With a final score of 60-58, the Lady Whippets are now the Black River League and Big Springs Conference Tournament Champions.
Finally, the boys' championship game featured the (1) Eminence Redwings and the (2) Van Buren Bulldogs. The Redwings came out of the gate on their home floor absolutely flying. At the end of the first quarter, Eminence had already made it an uphill battle for the Bulldogs with a score of 21-4. The Redwings were led again by their two dynamic seniors: Trent McBride with 34 pts and 14 rebounds and Grant Dyer with 29 pts and 16 rebounds. This two-man combination was all Eminence needed to cruise to a 76-55 conference tournament title.
